How to Think About Your New Website by Eric Sommer

1. What products, services, or other offerings do you want to promote through the website?

2. Do you need only a website or a website which will operate in conjunction with an app and/or social media and/or advertising?

3. What language(s) should the website appear in – English or Chinese or both? What about other languages?

4. Do you have text, photos, and/or videos for the website? Or do we need to prepare them for you? ?

5. Is your main website goal to build Traffic or Credibility:

The most basic question to ask yourself is whether your website or app is primarily intended to build traffic for your enterprise or organization, or is it intended mainly for credibility.

If traffic, then your website needs to be used to attract a large number of visitors.

If credibility, then you are not so concerned with getting strangers to visit the site; rather, you need the site to show to your existing clients or contacts, put on your business cards, and to include as a link in your posts or ads on Wechat or in social media.

It’s a fact that before engaging or doing business with a company or individual, a high percent of internet users will look for a website. If there isn’t one, or if the site is poorly developed, it can – and often will be – interpreted to mean that you are either very small-scale or very new or not a serious or reliable contact.

6. What should be the ‘Call to Action” on the site?

You also need to determine exactly what actions you want users to take when they visit the site – i.e, buy something from the site, learn something new, contact your directly to discuss a purchase, subscribe to a newsletter or updates, or download a pdf or otherwise access further information.7. What Should be the Flow or Sequence?
You and we should also consider the flow or sequence we want to lead users through on the site – i.e.,which items or pages should they best view, first, second, and third to move site visitors towarads the action you want them to take.

2. How is your product, service, or other offering differentiated from other similar offerings from other organizations? In other words, why should they buy from you or interact with you rather than your competitors?

3. Do you need a logo for your company?

3. Do you have a description of your company for the ‘About’ page?

4. Do you have or can you get testimonials from current or past clents?
